I swear I'm the only fucker in the entire world that actually has the patience to wait until the year is actually fucking over to review it. It almost makes me feel late to the party. But I'm not. I'm fucking on time.

I listened to a lot of albums this past year, though only a small portion were actually released in aught-six. Here are, in my estimation, the best of the lot, with links to the band website, my review of the release in question, and a brief explanation.

Mono - You Are There
It's fucking Mono. Awesome fucking Mono. I love every song on this CD, and several of the pieces are among my favorite Mono tunes yet released.

This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain
The band name accurately describes the music. It will destroy you. Excellent post-rock along the lines of Explosions.

Mono / World's End Girlfriend - Palmless Prayer / Mass Murder Refrain
An excellent selection of string-driven drone pieces from Mono and World's End Girlfriend. Absolutely thick with mood.

Russian Circles - Enter
Post-rock metal. With some prog to boot. They can play, and they can write.

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
I'm not sure if it's my favorite album of theirs, but it's definitely some damn good material.

Mogwai - Mr. Beast
Mogwai's most solid, and perhaps heaviest, effort yet, even though it doesn't have any of their best songs.

Mono - Memorie Dal Futuro
Only one long song, but it's a fucking good one. Shame the release itself bites fucking balls.

Té - If That is What is Being Thought
Instrumental rock that rocks.
