Eh, I can't get into them that much. I have Oceanic, and it's okay, but not good enough to make me dig it out anymore.

Not bad, not bad...

You have Boxer on top and that is what's important. However, you forgot to do a standard best-12-albums-of, and the list should read thusly (or, it's my best-of-2007 post from woxy):

1. The National : Boxer
Easy winner. Haunting, dark, lonely and so, so beautiful.

2. LCD Soundsystem : Sound of Silver
A surprisingly deep album of what is considered dance/electronic/rock (disco punk). You get wrapped up in the beats and synths and then you realize how good the lyrics are.

3. Jens Lekman : Night Falls Over Kortedala
Lots of strings and horns, and witty, crooned lyrics. Probably not for everyone, but it's clever pop and I love it.

4. Vampire Weekend : blue CDR
Not an officially released album, but this baby was the belle of the blog-ball this year. After multiple, multiple listens, I still love it. The popular comparison for this band's sound is to African soweto (the rythm and guitar tone, anyway), and that's an admitted strong influence of the band. But it's still rock and it's still good.

5. Avett Brothers : Emotionalism
I guess I'd call this folk rock, but what it really is is just good music. Two very clear voices harmonized perfectly.

6. Spoon : Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
Another great album from spoon.

7. Calvin Harris : I Created Disco
It's repetitive, and the songs all sound the same, but this is some good dance music. kinda goes with Chromeo as an 80's dance music throwback. Sounds like something I should hate, but....I....just......can't.

8. Andrew Bird : Armchair Apocrypha
good songs. almost......too good.....

9. Gogol Bordello : Super Taranta!
Lots of fun, but it wears off a little over time.

10. Chromeo : Fancy Footwork
See Calvin Harris (but better songwriting, but less bodyrocking)

11. Okkervil River : The Stage Names
I don't know why this one is coming so low, but it is. One of the best ROCK albums of the year

12. Modest Mouse : We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
again, this one should be higher, I guess. But it deserves a spot if only for the lyric in Parting of the Sensory : "someday you will die somehow and somethings gonna steal your carbon" Wow.

just thought I'd share. I need to spend some more time with the Beirut release. you know how that goes sometimes.

Also, I have been listening to the 2006 Apollo Up! release, Chariots of Fire a LOT and would like to put it on the list for this year. After revisiting it I've decided it's the best straight up rock album of the last 3 years!!

Thanks for the list. I'll have to follow up on some of these - most of which I'm actually not familiar with.

Explosions in the Sky's status as the post-rock band

Ummm, nigga what? :P

Also, you should give some Tegan and Sara a listen. The Con was easily my favourite album of the year.

I loves me some Godspeed, but I prefer a'Splosions. They don't make you sit through tedious bullshit to get to the payoff. Definite points from me. Also, Godspeed is dead. :(

I do believe I have checked out some of their stuff before (at your urging?), but I shall add The Con to the list.

Hmm, probably was my urging, but yes, The Con is great.

[edit2] Fuck it, this one too.

Tegan and Sara are just two (or one?) whiny girls. :/ The way they embrace their lack of ability as singers makes me forget to embrace them as a band. I enjoy them, but not nearly as much as you do, m_p.

I would have included World's End Girlfriend on this list, Cym. He really does it for me. And your analysis of Gogol Bordello is spot on. I went through the exact same phases with this album.

And both of you, check out Yndi Halda. They released an EP of epic proportions. Add Caspian's "The Four Trees" to your list if you haven't yet done so.
60% of the time I'm always right.

I'm not sure what to think on Tegan and Sara. Uncertain.

I have four of his CDs I'm listening to. I really don't know what to make of him. Parts I really like, parts I just tolerate. I haven't heard the new one, I don't think.

I'll add 'em to the list.
