I think i'd disagree here.

The serious side of FMP franchise was the thing that drawn me into it. I really enjoyed both Season 1 and TSR, and really am waiting for more. The stuff that characters are going through (and the ways they deal with it) may not be original or unique. But it is still presented in a strong way that easily clicks with more romantic (read: "messed-up-in-the-head") of its viewers.

I didn't really enjoy Fumoffu. Yes, it was funny, but at some points it was also downright tasteless. The only Fumoffu eppies i really liked were the ones with Bonta-kun, and also the one with social studies club pick-up-girl competition. The rest just made me go "wtf yuck".

The good news for comedy lovers is that we can expect a "Fumoffu 2" between TSR and Season 3 ^^.

Thank you for confirming every reason I have not to watch the second season of Full Metal Panic. After watching the plotless disaster of the first one, I cannot be convinced that any part of the show involving Gauron could be anywhere close to good. He was probably what ruined most of the first season for me, among many other things. Fuck you, Gauron.

However, I have a few qualms about your commentary. First of all, I thought even the humor in the first FMP was shitty. Kaname was really annoying and just pissed me off every time she spoke until around the end when she kind of mellowed out and reconciled her differences with Sousuke. With that in mind, I'm almost convinced that Fomuffu won't be any good, especially considering its emphasis on humor (which the Japanese are remarkably incapable of) and the lack of my favorite character, Tessa, who became my reason to even continue watching the first season, despite how pointless, stupid, and mindnumbingly fucking boring it was.

I'm just glad to know I'm not missing anything and I can safely relegate the Full Metal Panic series to the back of my mind.

Man, this is one from way back. Honestly, it has been too long for me to remember the series well enough to answer your question accurately. That said, my feeling, based on the fragments of the show that I remember, is that if you didn't enjoy the humor in the first, you probably won't enjoy the humor in Fomuffu. It's basically just an amped-up, hyperactive version of what was present in the first series, and is based largely around the Sosuke-Kaname dynamic: he does something ridiculous, she beats on him. I think Tessa shows up, but in relatively limited quantities.

Additionally, if you can manage to get your hands on the first episode, I suspect that would be a pretty healthy barometer; I don't think anything really changes significantly over the course of the series. If you don't like one episode, you probably won't like any.
